Dead Island 3 teased with returning character, as Dambuster Studios celebrates 20 million Dead Island 2 players

"The outbreak is far from over," but where the zombie-filled series heads next is anyone's guess.

Dead Island 3 might not be officially announced, but current series developer Dambuster Studios has given a very serious hint, nod, and wink towards it being in development.

In a post on Steam, the developer gave a small, but rather obvious hint and what is coming next in the zombie-slaying series.

It's been 14 years since Dead Island first splattered onto the scene, stranding players in the blood-soaked paradise of Banoi.

Since then, the zompocalypse has crawled from tropical shores to the sun-drenched chaos of HELL-A in Dead Island 2, where over 20 million Slayers have left nothing but carnage behind.

This isn’t the final cut though. Dambuster Studios are already carving out what comes next.

For now, the details stay under wraps, the outbreak is far from over…

That's it as far as new information. From the teaser image, which appears to show Dead Island 2's Jacob trying to hitch a ride out of LA, we're definitely looking at the next game moving to a new location.

While there's a possibility this tease is for a stand-alone expansion of sorts, similar to Dead Island follow-up, Riptide, it's been two and a half years since Dead Island 2 released and a full titled sequel feels most likely.
