Bond arrives March 2026, here are the 00-details

Bond, James Bond, will be making his video game return next year, thanks to IOI and 007: First Light. Last night, we were treated to roughly 30 minutes of gameplay, as well as that all important release date.
007: First Light will arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC on 27th March next year. Additionally, the studio has unveiled a collector's edition.
Lord_of_Snark says: Does EG get a commision for every mention of Silksong on the site?
Yes. Thank you!
Amazon has found its live-action Lara Croft

Amazon's Tomb Raider adaptation from Phoebe Waller-Bridge of Fleabag fame has found its leading lady.
Game of Thrones alum Sophie Turner will play Lara Croft in the upcoming, live-action series. "She's such an iconic character, who means so much to so many - and I am giving everything I've got," Turner said of the part.
There's a cool little GBA Easter egg tucked away on the Switch Online Classics app

Nintendo has added a rather nice little Easter egg to its Switch Online Classics app.
If you twiddle the analogue stick when you boot up the Game Boy Advance app, you will now be met with the classic start up screen.
MindsEye's disastrous launch "what we didn't hope for", says IO Interactive CEO

IOI's CEO has commented on the disastrous launch of MindsEye from Build A Rocket Boy, for which IOI provided distribution through its publishing arm.
"Well, that was definitely tough, right?" CEO Hakan Abrak stated in an interview. Moreover, it's put the future of the publishing arm into question.
"So, IO Interactive will publish our own games internally," said Abrak. "IOI Partners? That remains to be seen."

Mewgenics launching on 10th February 2026, almost 13 years since its initial reveal
Mewgenics - the cat breeding RPG from Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel - will be launching on 10th February 2026 to Steam. This announcement comes almost 13 years since the games original reveal back in 2012.
McMillen also released a 50-minute gameplay presentation so you can see what Mewgenics will actually play like. It's weird, a little gross, and wonderful looking.

Bond fan Alex went to IOI to see 007: First Light, and he's impressed

Is there studio better suited to making a James Bond game than Hitman developer IOI? Probably not. But even so, the transition from Agent 47 to Bond is not an easy one. Similar, yes, but not straightforward. Agent 47 and Bond are very different - and few people know this as well as Bond superfan Alex Donaldson.
Who better to send to IOI to see the new James Bond game, then, than Alex? Which is exactly what we did. And he prepared a bumper pack of 007: First Light coverage to coincide with the dedicated State of Play broadcast last night. What does he think? He, excitingly, is impressed.
Do you see the composite forming? Hitman's stealth and open endedness in places, yes. But then there's that counter-heavy combat, Uncharted-style spectacle, and tight-but-scrappy looking third-person shooting. Oh, and drifty, arcade-looking driving. Even in those segments that resemble Hitman, it differs: Bond can chat to people more, and there's dialogue options and branching conversations where you can talk your way through situations with 007's famous charm rather than have to sneak or subvert.
Is Silksong really too cheap? We investigate

Here's a complaint I never thought I'd hear: Hollow Knight Silksong is too cheap. But underneath the lighthearted banter a more serious discussion lurks. Maybe a €20/$20 price-point could skew what people start to expect from other, similarly priced, indie games.
In an effort to understand the question of price, and whether Silksong's price affects other indie games, I talked to the developers making them and publishers publishing them.
"I think the triple-A world has had much more to say about price-points and value, but maybe Team Cherry has brought that conversation over this way..."
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage is getting a closed beta test on 11th September
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage is getting a closed beta test on 11th September (or the 10th if you're in the USA). It'll feature online matchmaking, an offline training mode, and an offline arcade mode.
It'll last until 16th September at which point you'll have to wait until the full release in October to play the game again. Closed beta codes can be requested on the Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O Steam page or on the SEGA website for console players.
Roblox expanding age estimation to all users

In an effort to continue improving its safety standards, Roblox will roll out age estimation to all its users accessing its communication features by the end of the year.
It's one of a number of new measures, with chief safety officer Matt Kaufman stating: "We hope this move sets a standard that other gaming, social media, and communication platforms follow."
Marvel Rivals soon to arrive on PS4
It's been nine months since the launch of Marvel Rivals, but it's soon to be arriving on Sony's aging PS4.
That's on 12th September, alongside the game's fourth season and new character Angela, as well as some other new features and balance adjustments.
Are you still playing Marvel Rivals?
Patrick Gibson is James Bond - but is he the right actor for the job?

Casting the role of James Bond in 007: First Light was never going to be easy. This game, remember, is not a film tie-in or an adaptation of a Bond film gone by. This is a brand new thing with a brand new depiction of Bond. So who do you get to play him?
Patrick Gibson, the young Irish actor who played Dexter Morgan in Dexter: Original Sin. He becomes now the seventh actor to portray Bond in a visual medium, with IP owner MGM and EON's blessing. He also becomes the second Irish actor to play Bond and the second youngest actor to do it. But is he any good? Bond superfan Alex Donaldson explores the casting decision and associated connotations with game-maker IOI.
"I remember we saw, obviously, we saw a lot of tapes, we did a lot of test tapes and stuff like that. The first time I got in a room with him... I'd seen him on video, but being in the room with him I was just like - yeah, he's the real deal."
MarcusJ says: Last night’s Bond reveal viewing (or what I was able to hang around for) was one of the most entertaining EG moments I can remember in all of my seventeen years here. Thanks for that everyone. A very amusing atmosphere. And the game looks good too!
What a lovely comment! Although I am slightly jealous that it was Victoria at the helm, for this one, and not me. I shall have to lock her out of the CMS somehow.
FTJT says: In other news, the more recent gameplay footage of SW Outlaws on Switch 2 looks... absolutely fine, actually? This is exciting for me.
I was watching some footage of the Switch 2 version compared to the Xbox Series S version this morning, and the Switch 2 version looked noticeably better. Where's Digital Foundry when you need them?
T-minus two hours and counting. Who's buying Silksong? Have you pre-loaded it - can you pre-load it? I'm going to jump in at 3pm to experience the full-fat sensation of the stampede. If, indeed, there is a stampede.
I'm also going in completely fresh - I've never played Hollow Knight. Does anyone know any cheats? I'm joking!
Dwayneh says: The fastest True Ending speedrun for Hollow Knight is almost dead on an hour. You’ve got time Bertie before the release to catch up…
Oh bugger I've only just seen this. I am uncommonly gifted at games, too (on medium difficulty).
It's here! Five of the Best is here

What can you do in the 15 minutes until Silksong arrives? Probably make a sandwich or have a really fast shower. Or - and this is a much better suggestion - you could read Five of the Best. Five of the What? Best! It's an article series for Supporters of Eurogamer, that exclusive club where everyone is friends and holds hands. Don't let that put you off. And today, inspired by Hornet from Hollow Knight, we're talking about bugs.
Daily Silksong News channel premieres final grand farewell video after almost 1700 videos
Daily Silksong News, a popular YouTube show that kept Hollow Knight: Silksong fans informed on all the updates (or lack thereof), has uploaded a final video title dubbed "The End". In it, the host Araraura revealed himself for the first time and said thank you and farewell to his community of followers.
Daily Silksong News had accrued over 234,000 YouTube subscribers and a Discord channel full of Hollow Knight fans over the past few years. The host, Araraura, will told Eurogamer he'll be hanging out with his friends in the Discord until the game comes out, at which point he'll sign off and enjoy the much-anticipated indie.
H1ppyDave says: STILL waiting for Silksong to be purchasable on PS5. I'm half expecting it to be £40 just to troll me, and yet- I'd still pay that.
One minute!

The clock strikes three o'clock and Silksong arrives and... Steam breaks.

2much says: Everything is fucked!!!
So it seems!
chesterBox says: Nintendo eShop doesn't work for me, same with you? Shows me "Error Code: 2811-7002"
Likewise!
Nintendo eShop not working

A familiar sight for many of you I'm sure!
Taffer says: HahaEurogamer: Is Silksong too cheap, at £20?
Team Cherry: Oh, it's actually £16, soz!
Argh!
Silksong UK price confirmed as £16.75 on Steam
The UK price has been confirmed on Steam and it's £16.75, which is even cheaper than we expected. I'm downloading it right now!

Brag alert - don't look!
Silksong causes widespread server issues on all platform stores

Silksong has done the unprecedented, as far as I can remember, and tanked all of the major stores it's being sold on.
ROMhack says: Dare I say this hasn't been a particularly silky launch...
Haha! Very good.
Murder party Killer Inn gets closed beta test next month
Killer Inn, the Traitors-esque murderous action game published by Square Enix, is set to get a closed beta test next month on Steam.
It'll start on Friday 3rd October at 11pm UK time, until Monday 13th October at 11pm UK time. You can register for access on Steam.
I had a look at Killer Inn ahead of its reveal at Summer Game Fest this year - it's from Tactic Studios and sees players divided between Wolves and Lambs, with the former aiming to murder the latter without being caught. It sounds very Among Us to me.

2much says: Petition to change the rhyming slang from "Pete Tong" to "Silksong"
Motion granted!

It's so pretty! And it's, like, actually real.
"Bury this game and experience forever? That should be a crime"

Interrupting your Silksong feeds to share a nice chat I had with a modder who, after Ubisoft shut down The Crew's servers last year, has worked to revive the game.
In the words of The Crew Unlimited's project lead whammy4: "We're basically giving... millions of players their beloved game back."
H1ppyDave says: Bog off Bertie.
This stance is quite understandable!
Vordus says: So then. That's it for coverage for the day; the office is too busy playing Silksong.
No! But also yes?

Our Eurogamer Slack has been alight with people's progress getting hold of Silksong across various platforms. Hollow Knight superfan Dom is now in. As is Dom's dog, it seems.
Vordus says: So then. That's it for coverage for the day; the office is too busy playing Silksong.I just popped a story about a The Crew revival live... :D
How high will Silksong's concurrent player count go?
That's the question we're debating at the moment. Can it break 1 million concurrents across all platforms? I suppose all of those platforms have to actually work first.
Steam seems to be settling down and Silksong is currently at 112K concurrent players there and counting, landing it just outside of the top 10 games.
For now.

Something's haaaaaaappening!
Here's a new Ghost of Yōtei gameplay trailer

PlayStation has shared a new trailer for Ghost of Yōtei, showing off some Ōdachi gameplay.
"Unleash Atsu's powerful ōdachi blade to topple enemies big and small in Ghost of Yōtei," reads the blurb accompanying the trailer, which you can see below.
Ghost of Yōtei is set to release next month, on 2nd October.
Poglord says: Ah well. My guest tonight promised to let me play it for a bit while they doomscrolled, but I guess they're getting my full attention instead 😂
Haha - I love that. That's a good friend, that.
The working day is coming to a close here but what a day it's been. Excitement is exciting, and technical blips aside, Silksong has created a magical gaming moment. A moment of shared excitement - a proper video game moment, if that makes sense?
Even better, the moment has come not from a vast game-making machine that's spent millions of pounds on a marketing campaign, but from a small independent team. This moment has arisen organically, and the apparent success of Hollow Knight remains a wholesome tale. But the tale is not finished being told...
That's my Jerry Springer moment over.
A look at Football Manager's new match engine
This year's Football Manager is a big leap for the series, as you'll know if you read Chris' brilliant bumper feature last week. One of the reasons why the game was delayed a year was to get the new match engine right, and now we can finally see what Sports Interactive has been cooking. Here's our first glimpse of it in action.
Dom plays Ghostrunner dev's new game Valor Mortis

I loved Ghostrunner, the cyberpunk ninja game about slowing time and running along walls, and closing the gap on enemies so you could slice them in half before they shot or killed you. It was more of an action-puzzle game than combat game, which is why it's curious to One More Level move more towards combat with its new game Valor Mortis.
It looked like a Soulslike in the debut trailer released at Gamescom, but actually, Dom says, who's played it, it's more like a BioShock or a Dishonored - a hard as nails one.
I still couldn't tear myself away from Valor Mortis - the hardcore first-person RPG from the Ghostrunner devs - when it was my final appointment of the day. I stayed at the demo station until I beat the boss. That, in an environment like Gamescom, is high praise indeed.
