"It's an achievement for the development team behind Delta too, some of whom were original staff from the Metal Gear Solid 3 team. The legend of Metal Gear Solid 3 has been brought back to life thanks to their efforts, and the experience of playing it has put me in a position I could not have foreseen just a few years ago. Suddenly, I'm excited for the next Metal Gear game, whatever it will be. If it's made with a modicum of the care Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater was, it might well live up to the series' legacy."

Nvidia's RTX Remix contest shows some great results

Will saw some neat tech at gamescom this week, and he also got to see how developers are using some of it. Nvidia's RTX Remix project lets devs create remasters of old games and the results of the latest competition are pretty impressive.

Here's a video from our friends DF, from a few weeks back.

An early shout for Onimusha being the best game of gamescom 2025. Dom really liked what he played of it. Looks like Capcom is going to have a great 2026.

Cameron_poe says: I think the game that really stood out to me was Onimusha, surprisingly. It’s not a type of game I normally play but the atmosphere and fluidity made it stand out. The fact that the main character looks and moves like good old Mifune might be a part of too. Might have to get this one.

Fallout2 says: Is "write a refreshingly good comment" a new prompt? Looks like shade for my previous comments 😂

Yep, these are personalised based on a complex system of ratings and feedback, which we then crank through the Eurogamer super computer (Dave) and then feed to the staff to write prompts. Tbh, this takes up 95% of our days.

But no, not really. Although we can all do with a bit of a wake-up call now and again!

MarcusJ says: I think the only thing at Gamescom that really knocked my socks off was the Masters of The Universe scrolling beat-em-up. Two things that I like rather a lot modged together. But more excitingly it’s a Masters of The Universe game that actually looks like something the fans actually want, which is something of a rarity.

Back to gamescom games that looked good, and I agree with MarcusJ here - the He-Man game does look very good!

Hollow Knight Silksong set to receive more content in years to come

After seven years of development, Silksong finally has a release date - and there's more to come, with more content planned after release. Let's just hope this DLC doesn't turn into another extensively-developed sequel.

"Launching it is obviously quite exciting," said Team Cherry co-founder William Pellen. "What comes after for us is equally as exciting."

As a reminder, here's the announcement trailer one more time:

Persona 5's Joker is coming to Overwatch 2

As part of Overwatch 2's Season 18, Persona 5 protagonist Joker will be coming in a crossover with Atlus' celebrated JRPG.

That's alongside a brand new hero, the water-wielding support character Wuyang, as well as a load of other updates and a brand new battle pass.

As a Hollow Knight apathist, the game from gamescom I'm most looking forward to is probably Resident Evil 9. Sadly basic, but I am who I am.

Rusty Lake is back, and it's well worth checking out this overlooked series

Okay, so you know in the movies when the family is sitting cosily around the TV, and the announcer cuts in for one of those, "We interrupt this broadcast..." moments? Well, that's basically me right now, only instead of swinging in to warn you of the impending apocalypse, I'm just here to say the Rusty Lake series is brilliant and if the idea of some elaboratedly interconnected, generations-spanning macabre puzzle weirdness sounds like something you might enjoy, you should definitely give it a go. I've gone into a bit more detail about why it's worth checking out elsewhere on the site, because i) the (already super-inexpensive) series is currently discounted and ii) there's a new one on the way.

Also, here's the original header image for the article - which I had to change because BlueSky flagged it for being too sexy.

King of Meat, the Amazon-published chaotic dungeon creator, gets release date and technical test

King of Meat certainly is an odd choice for a video game name, but the chaotic dungeon creator published by Amazon now has a release date and is out in October.

It's been developed by Glowmade, comprising former staff from Lionhead (of Fable fame) and Media Molecule (of LittleBigPlanet fame), so expect plenty of sarcastic British wit as you battle through dungeons in 1-4 player co-op and build your own trap-filled wonders.

There's also a technical test running this week across all platforms if you want to check it out: that's Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Today's blast from the past archive article

Anyone really into doors? Like, not just a bit into them, but properly obsessed with them? If you are, then this article from Andreas Inderwildi back in 2018 is worth a read - it might even help you get a handle on your problem. If you're not bothered about doors, perhaps this is the article that will open something in you. Perhaps I'm just being a knob.

What Activision Blizzard's newly unionised employees want from Microsoft

Connor's spoken to newly unionised employees from Activision Blizzard's Story and Franchise Development team to find out more on their demands from Microsoft.

It follows the recent wave of layoffs at Microsoft, with employees seeking job security as well as pay rises and better AI regulation.

"The industry has had a lot of instability over the last few years, studios have been hit with layoffs, closures, game cancellations," said one union member. "I feel like it's the most profitable entertainment sector in the world, and the people who work in it should have a piece of that and some stability to their working conditions."

Bungie CEO Pete Parsons steps down, following years of criticism, layoffs, and spending millions on classic cars

Bungie's CEO Pete Parsons has stepped down after over two decades at the studio, and will be succeeded by Justin Truman.

In recent years, Bungie has reportedly suffered from a toxic workplace, not to mention multiple rounds of layoffs, with plenty of criticism aimed at Parsons himself. He also, notably, has a multi-million dollar classic car collection.

Here's a rundown of the past few years of Parsons in charge of the Destiny 2 studio.

That's it for today, folks. Hope you have a lovely weekend, maybe playing the odd game or two, and we'll be back on Tuesday (as it's a holiday in the UK on Monday). You can still read a handful of articles before then though, with news coverage over the weekend, some thoughts on The Rogue Prince of Persia, and everyone's favourite Jort wearer, Ian, delivers his thoughts on a very Ian game on Monday afternoon.
