The crop mutation makes affected crops all dusty and you'll need to have experienced a Sandstorm to be in with a chance of getting it. Also, the Sandy mutation seems to give a x3 multiplier to crops it's applied to.

To get a Sandy mutation in Grow a Garden, you need to have experienced the Sandstorm weather event in game. If you're lucky enough to get a Sandy mutation, the affected fruit will become a pale beige colour with a dust cloud surrounding it.

All you need to do is experience a Sandstorm weather event to be in with a chance of getting a crop with the Sandy mutation applied to it. Remember, having a Sandy mutation is one step towards getting the Clay mutation!
