How to get eggs in Grow a Garden

Pet eggs can be purchased from the Pet Egg Stand in Grow a Garden. The Pet Egg Stand sits next to the Gear Shop at the opposite side of the island to the Seed and Sell Stuff Stands. It is the one with the yellow and grey roof.

The Pet Egg Stand refreshes every 30 minutes, so make sure you visit it regularly if you're saving up for a Legendary Egg. You can force a refresh, however, by spending some precious Robuxs.

You can also get your pet valued and sell any unwanted animals to Raphael - the stand owner.

How to hatch eggs in Grow a Garden

To hatch an egg in Grow a Garden, you need to place it in your garden like you would with a seed. You can have up to three eggs in your garden at one time.

Once it's planted - or as planted as an egg can be - you simply need to wait until the allotted time for the egg to hatch. The general rule, however, is that the rarer the egg, the longer the egg takes to hatch. For this reason, Common Eggs hatch a lot faster than Mythical Ones. Remember, we've listed the hatch times at the top of this guide.

Image credit: The Garden Game / Eurogamer

When an egg is ready to hatch, interact with it and your pet will be placed in your inventory. From there, you'll be able to let it free to explore your garden and provide you with a useful trait.

Just remember - you can only have three pets in your garden at one time.

Interacting with pets in Grow a Garden explained

Clicking on your pet as it explores your garden will let you interact with it in Grow a Garden. There are three possible interactions - Feed, Pick Up and View.

Image credit: The Garden Game / Eurogamer

Feed lets you feed your pet (unsurprisingly) and increase their 'Hunger' bar. This will allow your pet to earn XP and increase their age until the 'Hunger' bar is depleted. This will continue even if you're not playing Grow a Garden.

Pick Up returns your pet to your inventory. This allows you to swap it out for another pet or sell it at the Pet Egg Stand.

View lets you see your pet's stats. This includes their name, weight, age, hunger and trait. The trait description is especially helpful as it will include any multipliers or time information connected to the bonus it provides. For example, you may see that the bonus can occur every minute and the percentage chance of it being successful. You can then use this information to decide whether you want to switch out a pet or not.

Aging pets in Grow a Garden explained

A pet's age is basically its level in Grow a Garden and is connected to its trait. The older a pet is, the more useful its trait will become as its bonus multipliers will increase. If you have a pet with a time related trait, for example, then the time it takes for that trait to be activated will decrease as your pet ages.

Alongside this, aging a pet will also gradually increase a pet's size so, if you see a large pet, then it's probably quite old.

To age a pet you need to fill in its 'Hunger' metre by feeding it with any of the crops you can grow. We found that the easiest way to do this was to hold a crop, walking up to the pet and then completing the command prompt which appears. The crop's size also determines how much of the 'Hunger' metre is filled percentage wise - the bigger the crop, the more your pet is fed!

Finally, pets will age even when you're offline. Thanks to this, it's a good idea to feed your pets any spare crops you might have before exiting Grow a Garden.

How to increase pet and egg equip slots in Grow a Garden

It is possible to unlock five extra Pet Equip Slots and five extra Egg Equip Slots in Grow a Garden.

Extra slots are unlocked by trading in pets with Raphael, the Pet Egg Salesman. First, however, it's important to note that these pets will need to meet the minimum age requirement before being traded. This means you'll need to have them walking around your garden and keep them well kept until they're at the right age. You can check a pet's age by using the View option or by checking in your inventory.

When you're ready to trade a pet, ensure they're in your inventory and return to the Pet Egg Stand. Once there, talk to Raphael and select '#4 Show me pet info'.

Image credit: The Garden Game / Eurogamer

This will open a menu where you'll be able to see information on 'Egg Rarity' (blue egg), 'Extra Pet Equip Slots' (yellow pet) and 'Extra Pet Egg Equip Slots' (green egg).

Depending on which extra slot you wish to unlock, visit their dedicated menu. Once there, your pets eligible for trading will automatically appear in the box above 'Trade In Selected Pet'. Select the pet you wish to trade and then click the button to unlock your new slot.

Image credit: The Garden Game / Eurogamer

Finally, it's important to note that the required age will increase as you unlock additional slots. This means you'll have to age up pets for longer if you want to have access to all of the extra slots.

Free pets in Grow a Garden

There are no free pets in Grow a Garden at the time of writing. You will have to obtain them via eggs or, if one is live, an event shop.

The only time free pets have been released is during specific weekly game updates and they were only available for the player who were playing Grow a Garden when said update went live. It's important to note, however, that there's no guarantee playing Grow a Garden during these updates will see you earning a free pet. This is because it's something the developers like to surprise the community with (see the Cooked Owl or Chicken Zombie).

Image credit: The Garden Game / Eurogamer

If you do want to try your luck, however, then you'll want to make sure you're in-game before the update goes live and stick around a little longer to ensure you get any of the free rewards on offer. In the UK, this would involve logging into Grow a Garden between 2pm to 3pm on a Saturday and then continuing to play once 3pm (the update time) passes.

Again - this does not guarantee you a free pet.

Unobtainable pets in Grow a Garden
